Our Guest Guitar/Vocalist
John Edmonds
(Bad Hair Day)
|
Great to have "Gentleman John" Edmonds back here guesting with The Houseband again and as always, bringing along some fresh material and bundles of enthusiasm...and yet another guitar from his impressive collection ! Never afraid of trying out new numbers, John gave us an excellent rendition of an old Chantays surfing hit "Pipeline" (although John was inspired by the Stevie Ray Vaughan version) - and what a pleasure it was to play too ! A great pity that we didn't have enough time to continue with John's last number "What'd I Say"at the end of the night, but yet another fine performance from John Edmonds along with "Smiley" Matt Dobney (Drums) deputising this week for the absent Reg. Quite a busy night with about twenty Jammers attending - and last, a couple of very fine Bass-players and six Drummers. Pleased to say that everyone got a fair crack on stage...only just, and very nice to see Robbie back here giving us some "Boogie Woogie" - and young Sam performing way beyond his age ! Hope to see them all back here next week when our Guest Guitarist will be the very talented Paul Garner - he made such a great impression here on his last visit and he really shouldn't be missed ! We hope to start early next week in anticipation of a very busy night !
Meanwhile, Our Thanks To Everyone For Making This Week A Thoroughly Enjoyable Night !

THE BLUES HEADLINES DOUBLE BLADED AXE REALLY CUTS GOOD Hermione Potroast, spinster of this parish, reported that shed been visited yesterday by an itinerant woodcutter, employing an implement hed referred to as a Crosscut Saw. Im not sure of his name, she told our reporter, It may have been Frank, or perhaps Jim. I dont know, but Id certainly want him back again. He cut my wood so easy, afterwards I felt an inexplicable urge to ask for a frankfurter in a bun.
MEN DONT KNOW, LITTLE GIRLS UNDERSTAND A high court judge has been called upon to explain why he allowed the defendant at a murder trial go free. Interviewed this morning, he said, I know it sounds crazy, but my wife told me to do it. It seemed to make sense at the time. The offender escaped capture after being severely wounded in a gun battle with police, by receiving assistance from a local doctor. I know it sounds crazy, he told our reporter, but my nurse told me to save his soul. A police spokesman said, Were beginning to see a pattern emerge here.
LTTLE COUNTRY BOY CAN PLAY A Louisiana musician has been acclaimed by critics after sell-out shows with his self-styled Big Roll band. People come from all around to hear him play his music, exclaimed proud mother Angelica Goode, I always said one day his name would be up in lights. In a traditional rags-to-riches story, young Ebenezer Goode, who has affected the name Johnny B., was brought up in a cabin made of mud and wood, and was considered illiterate, but despite his educational disadvantages hes said to play guitar like ringing a bell.
EVERYBODY TALKING ABOUT THE SEVENTH SON An unidentified man has been sectioned to a secure mental institution for psychiatric observation, after making a series of outlandish and exaggerated claims that has set a whole neighbourhood talking. I dont know who he is, explained local publican Oliver Pint, he wandered into my pub saying he could tell the future, predict the rain, heal the sick and raise the dead. He kept on going, Im the one, Im the one. You could tell he wasnt right in the head. In the end I had to stop serving him. One of the seven doctors who has interviewed the patient suggested he may have been Born for Good Luck.
WOMAN BREAKS NEEDLE, CANT SEW Local seamstress Mary Mack, known for her habit of dressing in a black outfit with silver buttons down the back, has begun legal action against a neighbour after a bizarre dog-walking accident, which she claims has caused her the loss of her livelihood. The neighbour, coincidentally also called Mary, who is known for her prize-winning horticulture, insists that Miss Mack was drunk at the time. She was talking about seeing elephants jump over her fence, and I said to myself, hi-ho, tipsy toe! the gardener told out reporter. I offered to show her how to walk the dog, but she claimed she knew how to do it.
MAN MAKES CALIFORNIA TRIP Long distance lorry driver B. Troup offered some advice today to motorists planning to visit California, telling them to drive along Route 66. Travel my way, he suggested, its the highway thats the best. He went on to map out the motorway, which winds from Chicago to Los Angeles, through Saint Louis, Joplin, Amarillo, Gallup, and Flagstaff, describing Oklahoma City as mighty pretty and urging drivers not to forget Winona, Kingman, Barstow, or San Bernadino. Highway Patrol issued a statement rebutting Mr Troup and saying there were plenty of other routes to California that were just as good. The last thing we want, a spokesman said, is a bunch of thrill-seekers all trying to get their kicks on Route 66.
However, you could get your kicks at the Heathcote Blues Jam with our guest John Edmonds, whose version of the 60s surf instrumental Pipeline was an unexpected pleasure. Special thanks to Matt Dobney for depping on drums- this is starting to become a habit! And thanks to our great cast of jammers too, including more drummers than you could shake a stick at! Lets hear it, then, for: Steve Cook and Sam (gtr/vocs); Ray (hca/vocs) and Ian Carvell (vox humana); Stevie Scott, Richard Stenhouse and Steve Collins (gtr); Ronnie (no relation) Collins (sax); Tom McCree (hca); Mike Rea and Graham Furney (bs); Robbie, Graham and Raf (kybd); and Mick, Nick, Mark S., Mark T., Jeremy and Roger Woods (drs); well done everyone. Next week our guest is the very talented, young and slender Paul Garner (I hate him already!) and we look forward to seeing you and all your friends- and perhaps just a few more drummers? at the Heathcote when we bring the Blues back to Leytonstone. Stevie King.

"Cycle for Darfur"
Hello Jammers & Listeners
Terry has kindly allowed me this space to tell you about a cycle trip that my daughter (Jacynth) and her boyfriend (David) are undertaking this year. They left East London on the 5th May and are cycling over 10,000km to reach India. The trip is estimated to take a year. The route will cover a large part of Europe, Turkey, Iran and Pakistan.
Jacynth hopes to raise support and awareness for the plight of the children who are caught up in the crisis of Darfur whilst David is raising money for Friends of the Earth.
If you would like to find out more and give them your support: please follow the links below.

I have been reliably informed that efforts are at present being made by a Christian society to make arrangements for Eddie's funeral, let's all hope that Eddie will at last be made to rest very soon ! Our thanks also to everybody that contributed towards something special in the way of a wreath for Eddie Bailey's funeral. We collected £119.00, which is more than enough for a wreath on behalf of The Heathcote Blues Jam. Any money left over will be appropriately donated to a deserving cause. Any further news will be posted on this website. "Good Time" Eddie Bailey ***********************************
